Milk Bun SHAWL

 

Cozy, soft, and warm — just like a freshly baked milk bun — this shawl is a celebration of comfort knitting. Pillowy cables rise and fold like soft dough, creating rich texture that feels as delicious and indulgent on the needles as it does wrapped around the shoulders.

Milk Bun Shawl offers a modern twist on classic Arans, incorporating cabled edges and asymmetric shaping. The gauge is not crucial for this pattern; the recommended yarn weight is anything from DK / worsted / Aran. The shawl is worked from the tip with increases along one side as a right triangle and can be knit to any desired size. The wide ribbing at the end flows seamlessly out of the pattern and can be decorated with a playful double-knit fringe.

YARN

  • DK / worsted / Aran weight

  • Minimum required yardage to be able to tie the shawl once finished: DK weight - 750yds / 685m; Worsted weight - 675yds / 615m; Aran weight - 600yds / 550m

  • For a larger and cozier piece similar to the sample: DK weight - 1370yds / 1255m; Worsted weight - 1235yds / 1130m; Aran weight - 1100yds / 1000m

  • Solid or semi-solid colors will show textures best

  • The gauge is not crucial for this pattern. Below you can see suggestions provided in stockinette, blocked. Swatch and pick the gauge and needles that give you the fabric you like.

  • DK: 22sts and 34 rows, US 7 / 4.5mm needles
    Worsted: 20sts and 32 rows, US 8 / 5mm needles
    Aran: 18sts and 30 rows, US 9 / 5.5mm needles
