YARN

• 1 skein of Alize Angora Gold Simli (10% mohair, 10% wool, 5% metallic, 75% acrylic; 3.5oz/100g, 547yds/500m) in color 1892
• Any fingering weight yarn will work fine. The pattern can be modified for another yarn weight and yardage.

NEEDLES

• US9/5.5mm needles
• For any other yarn: use needles at least three sizes up from stated on the label to keep fabric airy and light

GAUGE

• 18 sts and 28 rows in 4”/10cm in Garter Stitch, blocked
• Is not crucial and can be changed to fit the desired yarn

NOTIONS

• Scissors
• A piece of cardboard for tassels
• Tapestry needle
• Blocking mats and pins

FINISHED SIZE

• 71”/180cm long +tassels
• 31”/80cm in the widest part

BODY OF A SHAWL

The shawl is knitted by implementing 4 Stripe Patterns in this order:
- 16 rows: Garter Stripe 1
- 8 rows: Net Stripe
- 16 rows: Garter Stripe 2
- 12 rows: Lace Stripe

• The number of repetitions may vary depending on the yarn, gauge, and desired size of the shawl. Row count follows. In the row count, the usual text corresponds to the sample shawl. The text in Italic is added for your convenience and can be used for additional rows.
• Regardless of the yarn choice or gauge, the last stripe of the shawl has to be a Garter Stripe. This will help to keep the shape of the finished garment.

FINISHING

Regardless of the yarn choice or gauge the last stripe of the shawl has to be a Garter Stripe. This will help keep the shape of the finished garment.
Sample shawl was finished after completing R309. You can stop after completing any WS row of a Garter Stripe, depending on when the skein comes to end.

Bind off very (!) loosely:
Last Row (RS): k1, (slip st back to left needle, k2tog tbl) until 1 stitch is left.

Cut yarn leaving appr.8”(20cm) tail and pull it through the loop of the last stitch.

Wash the shawl in 30°C (86F) water and block into shape. Moderate stretching is recommended to open up the yarn overs and Garter stitch.

Make 2 tassels appr. 3”(7.5cm) long and secure them with the ends of working yarn at the beginning and end of the shawl. Hide the ends of yarn in the tassels. Here is the Tassel Tutorial.
