YARN

• 1 skein of Cloudborn Fibers Sock Twist (80% superwash merino, 20% polyamide 3.5oz./100g, 467yds/427 m) in Grey Heather.

• Any fingering weight yarn will work fine. The pattern can be modified for another yarn weight and yardage.

HOOK

• US G6/4mm hook or the size needed to obtain gauge

• For any other yarn: use the hook at least three sizes up from stated on the label to keep fabric airy and light

GAUGE

• 14 sts and 11 rows in 4”/10cm in double crochet, blocked

• Is not crucial and can be changed to fit the desired yarn

FINISHED SIZE (BLOCKED)

• Length (wingspan): 60”/152cm

• Width: 26”/66cm

OPEN STITCH STRIPE (2 rows, +2sts)

R1 (RS): Ch6, (ch1, skip 1 stitch; insert the hook from left to right around the post of next stitch, pull the loop and ch6; pull the 7th chain “link” through the loop on the hook)x until 1 last st;
ch1, insert the hook from left to right around the post of last stitch, pull the loop and ch6; pull the 7th chain “link” through the loop on the hook. 

The number of sts at the top of R1 should be 1 more than in the previous row.
The number of vertical columns in R1 can be calculated as half the number of sts of the previous row.
For example, after completing Set Up there should be 12 sts in the last row. That gives ½ X 12 + 1 = 6 + 1 = 7 columns.

FINISHING

Regardless of the yarn choice or gauge the last stripe of the shawl has to be a DC Stripe (1 or 2). This will help keep the shape of the finished garment. 
Cut yarn leaving appr.8”(20cm) tail and pull it through the loop of the last stitch.
Wash the shawl in 30°C (86F) water and block into shape. Moderate to intense stretching is recommended to open up the lace stripes and dc stitches.
Make 2 tassels appr. 3”(7.5cm) long and secure them with the ends of working yarn at the beginning and end of the shawl. Here is the Tassel Tutorial.  Hide the ends of yarn in the tassels.
