CYCLAMEN SHAWL

This shawl was created as an (almost) any yarn, any gauge kind of design, perfect for stash-busting: use minis, leftover yarn, odd skeins, and scraps to create a piece that is unique and magical!

A sister project to Cyclamen Cowl, the shawl captures the delicate beauty of winter gardens with bright sparks of cyclamen blooms. The flowers are created with dip stitches with just one color used in every row

The shawl is worked from the tip with increases along one side as a right triangle. Due to this construction, the length of the shawl is easily adjustable to get the desired size or fit the available yardage - just knit until you run out of yarn. Instructions are both charted and written out, video tutorial for dip stitches provided.

YARN

  • Any yarn from fingering to worsted weight range would work fine. Roughly 300g of yarn will give you a shawl of a decent size; feel free to use less or more

  • Numbers below are a minimum required for you to be able to tie the shawl once finished:
    Fingering weight: at least 800yds / 730m
    Sport weight: at least 700yds / 640m
    DK weight: at least 600yds / 550m
    Worsted weight: at least 500yds / 460m

  • Solid or semi-solid colors will show textures best

  • Sample shawl: a variety of scraps and mini skeins knit at DK weight gauge. For some colors, I used fingering weight yarn held double and lace weight held triple, carried two different yarns together, and switched yarn mid-row if it was running out

NOTIONS

  • Tapestry needle

  • Optional: cardboard for making tassels
