CURRANT SHAWL

With its traveling stitches, cables, Japanese wrapped stitches and nupps, this pattern was created for textural connoisseurs!
It was inspired by one of Northern Europe's favorite berries and celebrates the visual richness of branches overflowing with currants.

The shawl is worked from tip to tip with increases along one edge for the first half of the pattern and mirrored decreases for the second. The edges have lines of wrapped stitches running along them. The tips of the shawl can be decorated with playful knit bobbles.

There are two sizes with an option to make a longer version for each of them. Directions are both charted and written out. Videos for nupps, wrapped stitches, and cabling without a cable needle are provided.

YARN

  • DK weight OR worsted weight OR a combination of fingering weight + lace weight fluff like mohair or Suri OR sport weight + fluff

  • For a Small (Large) shawl: 350 (850)yds / 320 (780)m of DK or worsted weight yarn; if using yarns held double you’ll need this much of each yarn

  • Choose a solid or very slightly tonal colorway that won't interfere with the stitch patterns

  • Sample yarn, off-white shawl, small:
Wigeon from Purl Soho (100% Falkland merino, 359yds / 328m, 3.5oz / 100g) held together with Tussock from Purl Soho (60% mohair, 40% silk, 328yds / 300m, 0.88oz / 25g), both in color Heirloom White (these are affiliate links; they earn me a small commission without the extra cost for a customer)
