BEAUTYBERRY SHAWL
The unique textures and vivid colors of beautyberry were the inspiration behind my design. This really unusual and eye catching shrub has long branches hugged with showy clusters of glossy, iridescent-purple fruit. In a similar manner, the shawl features striking stripes full of color and texture.
This shawl was dreamed up as an ode to bright and adventurous yarn colors. It features a beautiful set of neon rainbow minis from Seismic Yarn highlighted and slightly mellowed down with white Suri alpaca. The pattern could work well with one skein of variegated or ombre yarn used for a contrast color as well. Or maybe dive into your stash and get a whole lot of yarn leftovers and scraps to use for each stripe!
Beautyberry is worked from corner to corner in three stitch patterns. The good news: all colorwork is done with slipped stitches, so only one color is used per row. Bobbles are not worked one by one; instead, sections of fabric are shaped with increases and decreases over several rows, this way being way less labor-intensive.
