This easy yet so nice pattern is obtained by alternating knit and purl stitches in every row. Can be sometimes found under the name British Moss Stitch. It creates textured non-curling fabric which looks the same on both sides.

Great for scarves, blankets, cardigans, often used as a border for other patterns.

FLAT KNITTING
Cast On: even number of stitches.
Row 1 (RS): (k1, p1) till the end of the row.
Row 2 (WS): (p1, k1) till the end of the row (knit every purl stitch and purl every knit stitch).
Repeat these two rows.

KNITTING IN THE ROUND
Cast On: odd number of stitches.
Row 1: k1, (p1, k1) till the end of the row.
Row 2: p1, (k1, p1) till the end of the row.
Repeat these two rows.
